Bad Luck

In the book i'm reading called Under the Dome the author spends a whole lot of time on the first day when the dome comes down, which they later call "Dome Day". I find it very odd how many people were hurt by the initial fall of the dome, I understand people driving into the dome and crashing but many people had severed limbs from the dome. One lady was reaching across the border to pick vegetables the the dome came down and cut her hand off. Another persons scarecrow got cut directly in half as well as a bird.

I just couldn't help but think, what are the odds your hand is reaching over a spot a giant dome is about to fall on. And if this were to happen to you how would you react to it if just out of no where your hand falls off onto the ground. Once you ran to get help people would think your crazy. Even when people were seeing the birds hit to dome and falling first hand they just stood there in awe wondering how this could possible be real.
